Van Dale and Paragon Software Group Launch First ‘Talking’ Dutch Dictionary Series for iPhone and iPod touch – Dutch Explanatory, Dutch French and Dutch English
Best linguistic content, morphology and audio modules, fastest definition look up through highly compressed SlovoEd application engine. Showcased at Mobile World Congress 2009.
FREIBURG, Germany – January, 2009 – Paragon Software Group, the leading software developer of electronic dictionaries for desktop PCs and smartphones, and Van Dale, the prominent publisher of quality dictionaries in the Netherlands and Belgium, have launched a series of ‘talking’ multilingual dictionaries for iPhone and iPod touch. The most reliable linguistic dictionary content from the publishing veteran Van Dale, and Paragon’s advanced SlovoEd engine have been combined to bring premium traditional dictionary content to iPhone and iPod touch users directly on the mobile device screen beginning with the most popular titles – Van Dale Dutch Dictionary, Van Dale Dutch-English & English-Dutch Dictionary and Van Dale Dutch-French & French-Dutch Dictionary.
Van Dale dictionaries were tailor-made for the iPhone, keeping in mind all special characteristics and unique features of the device. Van Dale Dutch Dictionary’s database contains 30,003 entries. No Internet connection is required – simply download the dictionary once and use it on the iPhone/iPod Touch without any additional expenses. The SlovoEd engine compresses the dictionary content to a minimum of memory space while allowing the user to perform multiple learning, word reference and translation functions as quickly as possible.
Dutch-English dictionary contains 25,557 entries, and English-Dutch includes 18,623 entries. The audio module contains 20,000 English word pronunciations. French-Dutch dictionary contains 23,114 entries, and Dutch-French 28,150 entries. The audio module comes with 20,000 French word pronunciations. Audio modules contain live voice pronunciations prerecorded by native speakers, and having them directly on the iPhone helps to improve pronunciation and ease the mastery of a new language.
The “History” feature shows the last 100 translated words, and the “Cross-Lookup” feature is an easy check of language comprehension. The new morphology module allows the user to perform translations in any grammatical form with a possibility to find and translate the base form of the word (available in both English and French dictionaries). Other features include fuzzy search, and wildcard search.
The multilingual Van Dale dictionary series are available for sale from the Apple Store at http://www.apple.com/iphone/appstore/ or at www.penreader.com. Van Dale Dutch Dictionary is available for 11,99 USD (9,99 EUR), Van Dale Dutch-English & English-Dutch Dictionary for 23,99 USD (19,99 EUR), and Van Dale Dutch-French & French-Dutch Dictionary for 23,99 USD (19,99 EUR).
